The National Committee of the Heads of Colleges of Agriculture and Related Disciplines (NACHCARD) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the Agriculture Development Trust Fund (ADETFUND) bill that was recently passed by the House of Representatives.
This was made known through a communiqué signed by the National Chairman of NACHARD, Dr Oluyemi Akande, and Dr Musa Maikafi for the Communique drafting committee of the 61st Regular Meeting of NACHARD, held at the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom, Plateau State.
The ADETFUND bill was sponsored by the honorable representative of Shomolu Federal Constituency, Ademorin Kuye, to empower farmers in Nigeria with an emphasis on financing farm units; and to procure equipment for onward transmission to agricultural units in a subsidy arrangement.

The communique further called for the harmonization of promotion exercises in federal and states’ colleges of agriculture, as well as collaboration in the areas of research, publications, project supervision, and project grants either from the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) or other donor agencies.
The meeting also agreed to host the 2nd National Conference in Ibadan on November 15, 2022, and that the postponed NICARDGA games would be hosted in Ibadan from November 13th to November 27th, 2022, and appealed to all the colleges to fully participate in the games to make them more colorful.

The meeting charged colleges to explore avenues of securing CBN and other agricultural intervention schemes/funds for enhancement of the agricultural research system and food security in the country.
NACHCARD commended the Executive Secretary, ARCN, Professor Garba Sharubutu, for providing an enabling environment and logistics for the meeting and the Vom Provost and the entire staff of the College for their hospitality and hosting.
