    Ogun State to commence the sale of Branded Rice

    The Commissioner of Agriculture in Ogun State, Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo, during her visit to Eggua in Yewa North Local Government Area, disclosed that the state would start the sale of branded rice by December, 2017.

    Mrs Adepeju said: “In fulfilling one of our objectives, we are set to produce MITROS rice, This rice is the best quality you can ask for because we provided the farmers with most improved variety of seedlings and it will be ready before the end of the year”.

    She stated further: “This will be the first phase of harvest, we will harvest others too. We will go through all necessary steps to ensure quality product, then we will package and brand it MITROS rice.  Both our local Ofada and Nerica 8 will be available for consumers.”

    Dizengoff, Others Set Up Greenhouse Farming Fund

    She said aside from the harvesting of 30 hectares out of the 100 hectares at Eggua, the state would soon begin harvesting of rice plantations at FADAMA farms and that of IFAD Value Chain.

    Mrs. Adepeju said the rice will be in varieties of Ofada, Nerica and Faro 44.

    Olugbenga Popoola, a farmer, applauded the state government for its efforts in land clearing, seedling production, fertilizers and others. On behalf of other farmers, Popoola promised to work harder during the next season to ensure further productivity.

    The Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Tosin Ademuyiwa, urged the youth to cease this opportunity to benefit themselves, further stating that the next phase would be more mechanized as modern farming equipment have been approved for purchase.
