    The Chinese Government has set up China-aid Nigeria Agriculture demonstration project, a technology research, demonstration and training center aimed at equipping farmers with modern day farming technology for the production of cattle feeds.

    The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, during a tour of the just completed project in the company of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ernest Umakhihe, noted that the project will help curb the clashes between herders and farmers.

    Jianchun disclosed that the technology is already in place in over 100 countries, adding that they are ready from the Chinese side to bring Nigeria farmers to the demonstration center in order to train them on the technology.

    He pointed out that the project is also called the friendship project, adding there is a need for technology in the development of Agriculture, and that Nigeria needs such kind of demonstration center to cultivate more talented experts, and technicians.

    “We use this technology to grow mushrooms for food to feed the cattles. We feed the people and then the animals. This will help curb the clashes between herders and farmers. Food is security that everyone needs. Without Agriculture, the whole country cannot be stable. Every year in Chinese document in the front page, it is about farmers, and agriculture.” Jianchun said

    Umakhihe on his own noted that the project is a worthy one that Nigeria government is ready to take full advantage of what is on ground, emphasizing that Chinese and Nigerian government have had cooperation over several sectors.

    According to him, the project is not a loan but a grant from the Chinese government, stating that for them to hand it over to government, they need to have a structure on ground and have a hand in running of the center when it is fully operational.
