    Emir of Kano Advises Sterling Bank to Stay Focused on Agric

    Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called upon Sterling Bank to focus on agricultural financing in keeping up with the Federal Government’s goal of diversifying the economy from oil to more agriculture-based operations.

    The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called upon Sterling Bank to focus on agricultural financing in keeping up with the Federal Government’s goal of diversifying the economy from oil to more agriculture-based operations.

    While speaking in Kano, the Emir encouraged the bank to stay committed to its duty of promoting agricultural enterprise through provision of funds.

    Significant, is the fact that Sterling Bank Plc won the Best Bank in Support of Agriculture Award at the Business Day Banking Awards and Agric Bank of the Year 2017 at the Nigeria Agriculture Awards Committee.

    Highly-decorated for its strides in the field of agriculture, Sterling Bank Plc also won the Best Agric Finance Bank of the Year 2016 from the Zamfara branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Best Performing Bank under the Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme (CACS).

    The Emir also urged the bank to sensitise people on the advantages of Non-Interest Banking to the business community and commercial pulse of northern Nigeria.

    ”With Non-Interest Banking, it is now inexcusable for people not to be banked or under-banked”, the Emir said.

    The bank’s ECO-Designate, Abubakar Suleiman, encouraged members of the Kano businessmen to participate in the Non-Interest Banking scheme, which will help distribute money to farmers and farm traders of all levels, who are in need of financing.

    Kano State Governor, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, expressed the government’s willingness to collaborate with Sterling Bank in giving proper orientation to farmers, individuals and businesses on the importance of Non-Interest Banking.

    Represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Tourism, Alhaji Ahmed Rabiu, the governor promised to help the bank in all its endeavours.
