Prospective land buyers in Ogun state have been admonished by the state government to confirm the authenticity of any land before making payment to anyone at the Ministry of Agriculture or Bureau of Lands & Survey.
Mrs Adepeju Adebajo, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Ogun State has stated that the verification is important to protect prospective land buyers from being duped by land snatchers, who may fraudulently sell government’s land at a cheaper rate.
“This means they will have no genuine rights of ownership and may end up paying multiple times or paying punitive charges”, she further said.
Land grabbers have been warned in the statement to retreat from selling government land, cautioned that the Anti-Land Grabbing Law, 2016 of Ogun State shall punish anybody nabbed.
Payment update must be made at the Ministry of Agriculture before the end of March by all investors on Government Acquired Land for agriculture. Those who have defaulted in the payment of Annual Ground Rent will have their allocations revoked.
