Due to its effect on the poultry industry and the overall endangerment of human health, the Nigerian government has pledged to intensify war on poultry smuggling.
This was revealed by the Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Heineken Lokpobiri, during his visit to Amo Farm Sieber Hatchery (AFSH), Awe, Oyo State.
He said that war is being waged on poultry smugglers and sellers of smuggled poultry goods alike in order to heighten the effects of the crusade against poultry smuggling.
He further stated that: “It is either we kill smuggling or smuggling kills us. This administration, under President Muhammadu Buhari, is ready to kill smuggling because of its negative effect on poultry industry”.

“FG is not only taking the war to smugglers alone but also sellers of smuggled poultry products. In the next few weeks, we would be going to cold rooms to ask them how they got their stocks,“ he said.
He assured farmers that the government would work effectively to supplement the efforts of farmers through the creation of motorable roads, provision of potable water for the host community and other infrastructure,
The GMD lamented the economic crisis and its effect on the farm, revealing that over two million day-old chicks have died due to low market demand.
He further stated that the price inflation of maize as regards stabilization of prices and lack of availability of grain throughout the year are some of the serious challenges facing the industry.
