The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has commenced her training of 75 women on cassava production and processing.
This was under the umbrella of the Youth and Women Agribusiness Investment Programme.
The South East Regional Director, Mr. Nnamdi Ibezim, hinted that the training would be participatory in the form of 65 percent practical and 35 percent theory.
He noted that the scheme will enhance understanding, comprehension and the retention of key production concepts and will thereafter, lead to speedy set up of cassava production industries in the trainees locality.
AIRDEF to Assist Farmers in Production of Tomato and Other Crops
The participants were selected from eleven states in the country. These states are Abia, Anambra, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Ogun and Osun state.
Particpant were made to undergo 2-week intensive residential training at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State.
In his address the Permanent Secretary represented by the South East Regional Director, Mr Nnamdi Ibezim said the training will cause an increase local production and an increase in foreign exchange thereby achieving policy objectives in the immediate and long term.
Assistant Director in the Department of Agricultural Extension of FMARD, Mr. Daniel Odogbo, said the training will cover six cassava growing states of Benue, Nasarawa, Ondo, Ekiti, Abia and Imo state, targeting 500 farmers per state.
