Farmers affected by the 2020 flood disaster in Sokoto State have received declarations from Veritas Kapital Assurance that their insurance premiums will be settled promptly in order to restore their loses within a reasonable time frame.
Kenneth Egbaran, managing director of the insurance firm, made this assertion during his inspection of the farmlands marred by the flood in Sokoto, Goronyo, Kware, Wamakko and other areas across Sokoto State.
The farmers’ groups represented at the inspection included members of the Maize Association of Nigeria, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria and National Cotton Farmers Association of Nigeria.

The managing director noted that consultants and supervisors had been deployed to document farmer beneficiaries, including those in Kebbi. He also shared that his team had inspected all the affected farmlands to ensure farmers benefit maximally from the insurance coverages agreed upon according to modality.
He explained that farmers’ premium payments depend on the size of their farms, further stating that the Central Bank of Nigeria had intervened to facilitate the success of federal social intervention programs.
“We take claim of settlement very seriously. That is why we are here despite the coronavirus challenges. We are committed to ensure your losses are restored in good time. We will take you back to your previous position,” he said.

In his remarks, Abubakar Danfuloti Tambuwal, state chairman of the Maize Farmers Association, commended the insurance firm, noting that the insurance payments would motivate farmers and encourage them to invest more in agriculture.
Also in attendance, Alhaji Ibrahim Salihu, state chairman of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, thanked Egbaran for the visit, which he described as the first of its kind ever paid to them by their insurance company.
