The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Muhammed Sabo Nanono has censured the inadequate use of agriculture automation in the Nation’s Agricultural Sector.
Nanono, while speaking during a special Agro-processing Zones Workshop in Abuja, stated that a widespread of farm machines are basic, and that will ensure continuity in the Farm Sector to the greater extent.
The Minister further said that insufficient provisions and ineffective use of Agricultural Mechanization happen to be the key issue at the moment. To serve the agrarian requirements for the Nation’s population, more than enough tractors must be provided.

He also emphasized on the recommendation of mechanized farming as a tool which could develop the Sector, and also which stands as a solution to solving the Food Security in the country.
Nanono acknowledged while describing further that perhaps this is the set time for both the Agricultural and the Industrial Sectors to work hand in hand together.
According to the Minister, an average of 1.5 to 2 tonnes is being traded per hectare presently. It can be increased further for an assured production of up to 10 tonnes per hectare with the use of Agricultural Mechanization.

Nanono briefed that with a country of over 90 million hectares of land available for cultivation, the number of tractors that are being used is not up to the tasks, leading to under-production rates.
In 2019, it is recalled that the North East Commodity Association (NECAS) disbursed 100 tractors to farmers across 17 local Government areas of Yobe State to increase their agricultural activities.
NECAS, accredited to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s anchor borrower programme, had made that disbursement in partnership with the Yobe State Government, and under the administration of the state Governor, Mai Mala Buni.
