The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has empowered farmers in Plateau state with farm inputs, solar powered boreholes, pen construction and other facilities to improve food security in the state.
The Executive Secretary of NALDA, Prince Paul Ikonne while speaking at the flag off of the food Production project of the authority in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, noted that the initiative is part of Mr. President’s effort in achieving food security and youth engagement.
NALDA intends to provide food security for the populace of the country by harnessing the full potentials of the vast arable lands and reducing the bar of entering agriculture as a farmer by providing subsidies and grants to increase output for economy diversification.

Ikonne disclosed that NALDA is encouraging farmers with the support of the Central Bank of Nigeria to aggressively produce food to ensure that no matter the level of food crises that may arise from the effect of the Russia/Ukraine war, Nigeria would have enough food for her citizens.
The Authority through the traditional ruler, farmers and youth leaders distributed inputs such as Seeds, herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers to about 600 beneficiary farmers, while projects includes cultivation of 200 hectares of maize farm for the 2022 wet season, 5 solar powered boreholes for dry season irrigation farming and to serve as source of water supply for the communities.

The traditional ruler of the communities, Kanankur Sule Longvel while receiving the inputs on behalf of his people commended NALDA for bringing such an intervention to them and appealed for the construction of access roads to the farms and tractors to be made available to enable them engage in mechanised Agriculture.
One of the beneficiaries, Comfort Ezra noted that the input will help them to improve their productivities, explaining that the herbicides would help them tackle weeds on their farms, while fertilizer and the seeds would go a long way to boost their yields.
