The Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) has sensitized farmers over the introduction of Farmsured Technology, a regulatory instrument to enable farmers to gain insights to check adulteration, access high-quality agricultural inputs, and track quality day-old chicks.
The Head, Inspectorate and Compliance for NIAS, Mr. Olufemi Atunbi, disclosed this at a convergence of poultry farmers on the development of risk-based inspection protocols in various livestock value chains under the auspices of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) and Promex Multi-Services Nigeria Limited, held at the University of Ibadan.
Atunbi explained that the application of the technology will make agro-inputs come in sealed, unadulterated, and protected containers to prevent tampering and diversion, stating that the technology was long overdue.

A resource person, Mr. Ayo Okediji, while delivering the key presentation at the event, noted that the technology will help to add value to NIAS operations in terms of standardizing livestock service centers, combating multiple taxations, product tracking and supply chain traceability, and protecting the interests of breeder farms and hatchery operators.
He lamented that Nigerian farmers continued to suffer losses owing to rampant counterfeiting, low-quality agricultural inputs, and noncompliance with good agricultural practices. practices such that there was huge reliance on imports that further strain farmers’ access to profit.

Also speaking was the Chairman, Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Oyo State, Mr. Kunle Omidokun, who described the protection of farm inputs as a critical aspect that directly impacts the sustainability and success of farms, adding that the technology is a significant leap forward in safeguarding poultry assets and one that would bolster the poultry ecosystem.
Omidokun noted that, with the hyper-rise in input prices, the introduction of farm-based technology was in order, explaining further that implementing technologies that optimize feed production processes was expedient at a critical time like this.
