Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Adepeju Adebajo, during the celebration of the 2017 World Food Day, said Ogun State aims to become self-sufficient in food production.
The theme of the event is “Change the Future of Migration, Invest in Food Security and Rural Development”.
Represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Steve Ipiniwa, Adebajo explained that the state is currently involved in certain extensive projects she labelled “Special Intervention Projects aimed at making Ogun State the country’s major food supply source”.

Some of these projects include 320 hectares Rice Revolution Programme in Eggua, Yewa North, Onigbedu and Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Areas of the State.
Early this year, the government of Ogun State approved 11 agricultural projects that will boost food security in the state.
Aside from the aforementioned, they are 3 fish farms at Odeda, procurement of five heavy duty harrow, 20 bulldozers and the distribution of crops and seedlings.
Other projects which the representative of the Commissioner claimed are geared at actualizing the goal of food security and becoming Nigeria’s food basket includes 2000 hectares of cassava revolution project at Owowo, poultry revolution project at Odeda, with the construction of six poultry pens of 10,000 capacity each.
A call was made to the concerned communities to take full ownership of the projects and the youths should take full advantage of it by improving on their agricultural skills.
