In the bid to increase production, the Enugu State Government has advised residents to go into rice farming, assuring them lands will be made available for cultivation.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Matthew Idu, stated this during an interview with newsmen, on the closure of the border. He said the closure will boost the production of homemade rice, particularly in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state.

Idu made it known; the state government has recently discovered large quantities of suitable rice farming land in six (6) local government areas. The state government is, therefore, asking the people of the state to get involved in the cultivation of rice.
According to the Commissioner, the Federal Government’s decision on the closure of the Nigerian border will be of great benefit to the people, motivating Nigerians to produce locally.
