    Expert Urges Youths and Women to Take Agriculture as a Serious Business

    The Nigerian youths and women have been advised to see agriculture as a serious business that they can explore, with numerous potentials abounding in it, and also raise income to reduce poverty and food security in the country.

    The Chairman, Hicoti Consulting Limited, Tokunbo Ayekoti, made the admonition while addressing the participants during the opening ceremony of the five-day youth and women empowerment program that is done in different agricultural value chains in selected communities in Ife federal constituency, Osun State.

    He explained that the five-day training has been organized by the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) in partnership with Hicoti Consulting Limited. He also noted that agriculture has moved from just mere farming to a serious business that is capable of turning around the fortunes of those who choose to be involved in it.

    Ayekoti noted that it is very important for youths and women in Nigeria to embrace agriculture in order for them to take full advantage of what agriculture has to offer, since white collar jobs are not forthcoming these days.

    Furthermore, he called on the participants at the training to pay attention and feel free to ask questions from facilitators who are already prepared to address their curiousities in whatever form.

    Dr. Vincent, the Comptroller General, Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), who was represented at the occasion, told the participants to make judicious use of what they will learn at the training so that Nigeria’s agricultural sector will continue to flourish.

    Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro, the facilitator of the program and the representative of the federal constituency, expressed optimism that participants at the end of the training will contribute to the growth of agriculture in Nigeria.
