“A Fresh Start for Inmates: NCoS Partners with Ministry of Livestock Development”

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) is taking bold steps to boost productivity and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth. Recently, the NCoS announced its plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Livestock Development, a move that is expected to improve the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

At the heart of this partnership is the NCoS’s desire to leverage the skills and manpower of inmates to drive livestock development. According to Deputy Controller of Corrections, Umar Abubakar, the NCoS has been training inmates to become self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to the livestock sector after their release.

This initiative is part of the NCoS’s reformatory policy, which aims to enhance output and promote self-development among inmates. Farming, livestock development, and other ventures have become integral parts of this policy, providing inmates with valuable skills and experience.

To kick-start this partnership, the Acting Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, paid a visit to the Minister of Livestock Development, Dr. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, in Abuja. During the visit, Nwakuche outlined various agricultural projects undertaken by the NCoS and sought areas of collaboration with the Ministry.

The NCoS has agricultural projects and production activities spread across the country, and the partnership with the Ministry of Livestock Development is expected to reposition these farm centers for greater productivity. As Abubakar noted, “The Corrections farms formed parts of the reformatory efforts of the Service to give inmates a lifetime opportunity upon their discharge”.

The Minister of Livestock Development expressed his delight with the partnership, praising the visionary leadership of the Acting Controller General. He pledged the Ministry’s support towards actualizing the mandates of the Service through the strategic partnership.

This collaboration is a significant step towards promoting economic growth and development in Nigeria. By leveraging the skills and manpower of inmates, the NCoS and the Ministry of Livestock Development can create viable economic hubs that benefit both the inmates and the wider community.

In addition to its economic benefits, this partnership also reflects the NCoS’s commitment to rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates into society. By providing inmates with valuable skills and experience, the NCoS can help reduce recidivism rates and promote community safety.

The Nigerian Correctional Service’s efforts to promote economic growth and rehabilitation are commendable. As the partnership with the Ministry of Livestock Development takes shape, it is essential to monitor its progress and impact on the economy and society.

In conclusion, the partnership between the NCoS and the Ministry of Livestock Development is a significant step towards promoting economic growth and rehabilitation in Nigeria. By leveraging the skills and manpower of inmates, this partnership can create viable economic hubs that benefit both the inmates and the wider community.
