The Agricultural Social Entrepreneurship Foundation (ASEF International) has just signed a memorandum of understanding with New Generation Nutrition (NGN) (Netherlands) and FIDAS Africa on training Africans on insect farming.
Speaking during the ceremony, the CEO of FIDAS Africa, Omolola Elsie Oludare, said that the training is targeted at 100,000 Africans, with 40,000 slots reserved for Nigerians. She also said that the platform will also train 100 specialists and experts in the value chain across Africa.
The MOU signing ceremony took place at the Business Incubation Platform Office of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to make the training on Black Soldier Fly accessible to youths and women in Africa.
IITA-BIP, NGN Organize Training on Insect Breeding as Alternative Feed Source
The founder and CEO of NGN, Marian Peters, recounted that her organization, in conjunction with the University of Ibadan, has sponsored the training of the first cohorts of insect farmers in IITA from the last quarter of 2023, and more people will be trained over the course of the year.
In her remark, the CEO of ASEF, Rosemary Omoyeni Adebayo, said that the role of ASEF is to promote agricultural development and contribute to food security in Africa, saying that ASEF will be providing 90% subsidy to the training, thus making more Africans access the program.

Also speaking, the representative of the project Waste4meal, Azeez Oluwole Saheed, pointed out that the project Waste4meal is designed to combine waste management, climate action, food security, and agricultural real estate in a single project.
The guest of honor at the event, the Director General of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, OYSADA, and the CEO of BIP, Dr. Debo Akande, represented Mr. Wole Oladokun, congratulated the parties to the MOU, and promised to provide necessary support towards the success of the project and the benefits of Nigerians.
