    Edo State to Prepare 1,000 Hectares for Women Farmers

    The Edo State Government said it has reserved a thousand (1,000) hectares of land for cassava cultivation, which is part of its agriprenuer programme targeted at motivating women farmers towards making its food security a reality.

    Godwin Okonofua, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in his statement, said the land is allocated for cassava production under the women empowerment initiative.

    Okonofua said the state raised funds from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), under the the Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme to finance this project.

    The Permanent Secretary said the government has assumed to clear a thousand hectares at Oria, the Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo state for its women empowerment drive.

    Late last year, the Nigeria Cassava Growers Association (NCGA) completed training for farmers in Edo State on farm mechanization and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). The programme was designed to equip farmers with the tools and knowledge relevant to farm yield improvement methods.

    The Central Bank of Nigeria last year disbursed N53.3 million to farmers in Auchi through the Edo State Government Cassava Project.
