LAGOS—Popular London-based overseer,Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi has called on the federal government to embrace agriculture as a way out of current graduate and massive unemployment in the country.
The cleric while speaking with journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, said, young Nigerians need to turn to agriculture to help combat the socio-economic woes of unemployment in the nation which will help contribute to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.
“Agriculture holds the key to engaging young graduates venturing into production of food as God has promised to “restore the years eaten by cankerworm.” she said
Governor Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi also enjoined others in urging university graduates to shift attention from white collar jobs and embrace agriculture as a means of stemming the tide of unemployment in the country.
He made the plea at the 6th convocation ceremony of Fountain University in Osogbo, Osun State.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu (APC-Nasarawa West), in an interview with pressmen in Nasarawa State, urge Nigerians to embrace agriculture in order to achieve national food security.
Others who have added their voice to this issue are Mallam Bashar Garba; an entrepreneur, Mrs. Oludolapo Osinbajo; wife of the vice-presudent of Nigeria, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa of Delta State.
