    IMSU VC Urges FG to Invest More In Agriculture

    The Vice-Chancellor, Imo State University, Prof. Victoria Obasi, has urged the federal government to pay attention to the agricultural sector in order to pull the country out of the shackles of economic recession.

    Prof. Obasi while speaking during an international conference organized by the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of the University blamed the national economic culture of over-dependence on oil as the sole source of revenue.

    She further stated that boosting agricultural production would salvage Nigeria’s dwindling oil economy.

    The Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of IMSU, Prof. Benjamin Ekenyem, said that the purpose of the International Conference with the sub-theme, ‘Harnessing the Potential of the Environment’ was organised to share research breakthroughs recorded in agriculture.

    He added: “It was also organised to sensitize the youth to the prospects of agriculture, especially in job creation, income generation, foreign exchange earnings and reduction of youth restiveness and violent crimes,” .

    In another related development, the Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA), Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to invest more in agriculture to ensure food security and reduce the huge amount of money spent on food importation.
