Former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor was conferred with Agricultural honour for his dedicated and visionary efforts to bring improvement in agricultural practices in the country.

Mr. Benito Owusu Bio, Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly and Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources said on this occasion that the Ex-President didn’t cease his commitment to agricultural growth and development post his Ghana Presidential tenure.

The deputy minister lauded all award winners, especially the former President for their patriotic spirit. He reiterated some contributions of the former President for improving the standard of living in the country with policy implementations for good agricultural practices.

“You continued to do what your parents did the best – farming that has created numerous jobs for the common masses,” he said. “Although the international community has already recognized such efforts, your motherland owes you for this great gratitude you instituted and implemented the policies that ensured the reduction of chronic hunger and poverty in the country through subsidizing agro-inputs to free cocoa mass spraying,” he further said.

John Kufuor’s interest in agriculture encompasses crop and animal husbandry as he has over 200 acres of cocoa and other crops besides more than 300 sheep and other cattle.

His contribution to agricultural development goes beyond his time in office like his counterparts in Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-President of Nigeria who currently serves as the patron for several agricultural associations and organizations.
