The Abia State Government, in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme (AADS), has launched a 55,500 capacity Ultra-Modern Poultry Cluster in Umuosu Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North LGA of the State.
In his address during the inauguration, the state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu made it known that the cluster supplies almost everything for the poultry farmers, right from the training facilities to feeding, production process and the provision of the markets.
Ikpeazu said that the need for farmers to know the basics of poultry farming and be ensure that proves successful in the system made the State government invest in it while encouraging the youngsters for their active involvement in such practices as it is seen to be a suitable tool for region’s empowerment.

Also at the event, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) representative, Camilus Ogbuagu, praised the State government for being the first in the country to invest hugely in such projects.
Ogbuagu, in a word of assurance, said that the apex bank would carry on with its partnership with the State, with the view that this scheme will reach its goal.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ikechi Mgbeoji, in his remarks, said that the project would promote the poultry production in the State, beget wealth and reduce the unemployment rate.

It should be recalled that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) recently disclosed its plans towards bringing out the capability of poultry producers with the aid of a University-based Poultry Revival Programme.
The CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele at a meeting with the Vice-Chancellors of Universities, said that this programme aimed to produce enough chicken (meat) and egg that will result into massive reduction in importation thus reduce the existing demand and supply gaps.
