    NISS Develops App to Boost Soil Testing Technique

    The Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS) has unveiled a mobile app called NISS Agro App, for farmers and extension agents to promote soil testing techniques before planting in a bid to boost food production.

    The Institute’s Northwest Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Sama’ila S. Noma, made this known in Kano during training on the app for stakeholders drawn from North-Western states, disclosing that the ICT agriculture tool was developed by NISS to ensure the best and standard practices in farming.

    NISS is the foremost regulatory institute for soil science and agricultural practice in Nigeria for increased profitability for all stakeholders and to guarantee improved soil management systems that will embrace environmental sustainability and ensure high agricultural productivity.

    NISS Trains Farmers, Extension Agents On Use Of Soil Test Kit

    Noma was represented by a Professor of Soil Science, Prof. Nafiu Abdu, who described the app as a user-friendly one developed to help farmers properly manage the use of soil and to boost agricultural production.

    While urging the trainees to utilize skills acquired for personal development and also to train other farmers, he explained that the app is for data collection on soil-related issues like soil fertility, soil conservation, and also the farm produce and marketing.

    “NISS, in its bid to make food available to the teeming population of Nigeria, is always organizing training for the farmers and extension agents on how they can properly manage Nigerian soils and also boost agricultural production.”

    “NISS is an organization entrusted with the mandate of ensuring the quality of soil in Nigeria, that is, how the fertility of the soil is maintained for efficient and sustainable crop production. So, this training is for farmers and extension agents to be trained on using the NISSAGRO app.
