    Sule Launches Farm Input Sales For The 2022 Cropping Season

    The governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, inaugurates the sale of 1,035 metric tons (20,700 bags) of fertilizer for the year 2022 cropping season as part of his administration's plan to tackle food security in the state.

    Sule, while speaking during the inauguration, boasted that the state is endowed with fertile land and good climatic conditions suitable for farming and that agriculture has become a major employer of labour and the most viable vehicle for achieving food security in the state.

    Agricultural inputs are any external sources that can help a farmer’s upcoming yield. They can be anything from high-quality seeds to high-tech tractors.

    There are two categories of agricultural inputs, consumable inputs and capital inputs. Consumable inputs are every day, commonly used agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, insecticides, etc. while capital inputs are materials such as tractors and trellising materials that are often a larger investment.

    According to the governor, the fertilizer for the 2022 cropping season will be sold to farmers at a subsidized rate of N10,000 per bag, explaining that the effort was aimed at improving agricultural production in the state.

    He warned those handling the sales of fertilizer to be held responsible for any anomaly in the distribution of the fertilizer in their respective domains, adding that his administration has also keyed into the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) for the construction of rural roads.

    The commissioner for Agriculture and water resources, Mr. Nuhu Oshafu, explained that the state government has pursued and implemented farmers’ friendly policies and provided critical farm inputs such as fertiliser, agro-chemicals, among others, to farmers in the state.

    Oshafu appreciated Governor Sule, for promptly approving funds for the procurement of fertiliser for the 2022 Cropping Season, while advising farmers to take advantage and maintain a closer contact with extension workers so as to keep abreast of new technologies in the field of agriculture.
