The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) has launched a five-year new strategy plan that intends to improve the resilience and competitiveness of local actors for food system transformation in Nigeria.
At the strategy launch in Abuja, the vice president for policy and state capability for AGRA, Dr. Apollos Nwafor, disclosed that the new strategy will enable the organization to work on climate-smart technologies and develop policies for good governance to achieve agricultural transformation.
AGRA, as an African-based agriculture organization, developed the 2022–2030 Strategic Framework (SF2030) for agricultural transformation, which was split into two 5-year strategies to give room for a clear mid-way point to evaluate progress and re-route strategic focus if necessary.
AGRA Collaborates With Others to Promote Gender Policy in Agriculture
The 2023–2027 strategic plans are focused on the inclusiveness of smallholder farmers and other partners to develop policies and build a robust enabling environment where the private sector thrives to ensure agricultural transformation and enhance climate-smart technologies for sustainable farming.
Nwafor explained that the agricultural sector, being the largest employer of labor, would greatly improve the well-being of the people and encourage the economic development of the country if the right policies were developed and implemented.

He projected that the implementation of the Strategic Plan would see the growth of over 30,000 small and medium enterprises, pointing out that it would commence in the five States of Kaduna, Niger, Nasarawa, Gombe, and Oyo, adding that with the provision of more funding support, the program would be extended to other States.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Ernest Umakhihe, while commending AGRA for the success of its past programs, expressed optimism that the new plan would bring about transformation in the food systems of Nigeria.
