Specialists in poultry production and some stakeholders have called the attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the fulfillment of a promise made by the apex bank back in 2019, to revive the campus-based poultry production.
The promise was dated to July 2019 when the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, represented by his Deputy, Joseph Nnanna, reported that the apex bank has chosen different institutions across the nation to run the University-based Poultry Revival Programme.
CBN to Partner with FCDA, States for Dairy Production
The idea, which has an objective of reviving the dormant poultry sub-sector in Nigeria, was brought up by the CBN, in line with its plan to variegate the nation’s economy, as well as creating jobs for the unemployed.
As stated by the bank, the institutions were selected based on facilities such as hatcheries, feed mills, poultry pens, adding that other important and useful information that can boost their being part of the scheme were as well gotten.
He believes that the border closure and the nation’s move to focusing on the local production of chickens will serve as a great opportunity for the institutions to utilize but report has it that commencement of the program is yet to be seen, neither does it have a structure.
CBN Partners with NINAS to Improve ExportationÂ
Early this year, the Ogun State Government delivered 54,000 day-old chicks to 54 participants of its Broiler Empowerment Program, a scheme made for youth empowerment in the state.
The program, aimed at reducing the rate at which frozen poultry products are being imported, as well as making a source of living for young agripreneurs through mass farming, was in line with the Public-Private Partnership, an arrangement where the government gives poultry footing.
