    Nigerian Army to Collaborate with Agric Ministry on Food Security

    The Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited (NAFARL) is set to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) towards achieving food security and boosting agribusiness development in Nigeria.

    Minister of Agriculture, Sabo Nanono announced this in his office in Abuja during a courtesy visit from a delegation with NAFARL led by executive director, Brig.– Gen. Maina Kadai.

    The minister explained that collaboration between FMARD and NAFARL is a welcome idea that will help ensure food sufficiency for the nation, with the two agreeing to jointly embark on the policy of mechanization, improved seeds development, extension services workers training and food processing across the country.

    Nanono lauded the Army for demonstrating that it is focused not only on protecting the country’s territorial integrity and citizens but also on ensuring  food security, as it invests  in agricultural policies that are geared towards feeding  Nigerians , creating jobs and improving the nation’s economy by generating revenue.

    (NAFARL) was established as a directorate and subsequently placed under the Department of Projects and Programs in the Army’s Abuja headquarters.  It was designed to implement the federal government’s policy on food security and boost internally generated revenue for the Nigerian Army.

    Brig.- Gen. Maina Kadai remarked that NAFARL, in conjunction with the ministry, will embark on massive commercial farming.

    He further said: “NAFARL is the premier and only Nigeria Army (NA) agricultural establishment and also builds capacities of staff for the efficient employment of modern agricultural techniques in conformity with global best practices.”
