The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Federal Government of Nigeria have partnered to come up with strategies to reduce deforestation and engage economic and environmental stakeholders.
The discussion of the two-day event revolved around the National Forest Investment Plan under the broader West Africa Convergence plan adopted in Cote d’Ivoire that involves 15 ECOWAS member-states, intergovernmental organizations, international organizations of the United Nations and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
FAO Food Price Index Declines Amid Cereals Boom
The representatives of the Minister of Environment and the Director, General Services of the ministry, Mr. Tahir N. Suleiman, said FG was committed towards implementing the West Africa Forest Convergence Plan in order to boost its forest resources.
The Nigeria country representative of FAO, Mr. Suffyan Koroma, represented by Hajiya Sadiya Ibrahim, said: “FAO was ready to support the implementation of the convergence plan for the sustainable management and use of forest ecosystem in Nigeria.”.
The representative added that FAO was working with the Ministry of Environment and others to achieve this sole aim.
